As a young man, Giuseppe developed an unshakable ambition: to buy his own plot and plant his own olive trees. After many years’ hard work, Giuseppe was able to buy hectares of land and in 1990 he founded a company called Costanza Giuseppe Domenico Farm. From these beginnings strong roots would grow.
With a small farm established, Giuseppe Costanza started a family and had a son called Luca. Luca admired his father’s commitment and when he was old enough he joined the company.
Luca respected the traditions which underpinned our family’s business, but he was also innovative and technologically minded. He worked on new ideas, certifications and machinery to make our enterprise more competitive in the modern market, and he soon opened a new sector called Italian Export Company Costanza SRL in nearby Palermo.
Through this blending of tradition and modernity, Luca was able to introduce Costanza to the international olive oil scene.
With respect for our roots, we use three strictly
Italian cultivars – biancolilla, nocellara, cerasuola – guaranteeing an authentic olive oil, which is harvested, pressed and packaged in Sicily.
We only use the most technologically advanced processing systems to meet our increasing customer demand. Production begins at our Pieralisi olive mill, where the olives are cold-pressed just two hours after picking in order to preserve their nutritional properties.
Once we’ve extracted the oil, it’s stored in a state-of-the-
art air conditioned chamber at a controlled temperature
of 18°C. At this stage nitrogen gas ensures that the oils
– and their flavours – are perfectly preserved. Then it’s on to the bottling room, where our oil is packaged and prepared for sale.
Our production is certified by the world’s highest food certifications, including ISO 9001, ISO 22005, the British Retail Consortium certification, the International Food Standards certification, the Kosher certification and the Halal certification.
IS AT THE HEART OF EVERYTHING WE DO
As the olive tree supports the ecosystems which surround it, so Costanza strives to respect our local environment. We use solar photovoltaic electricity generated by our own plant to reduce carbon emissions. And to ensure our natural by-products aren’t wasted we produce crushed olive stones to be used as an alternative to wood fuel in fires, helping to minimise deforestation.
A strong tree has many branches and we believe that a strong business does too. That’s why we’ve expanded our portfolio to include other complementary products such as pomace olive oil, sunflower oil and rapeseed oil – all key ingredients in our rich Mediterranean culture.
Today our company continues to be lead by Luca Costanza. While keeping strong ties to his Sicilian homeland, Luca has moved to the UK to develop the company’s communications and explore the world market.
We’ll continue to grow Costanza organically and sustainably with new innovations, always guided by the same passione per la qualità with which we founded.
